Shrews snare new keeper

Shrewsbury Town boss Paul Simpson hopes his capture of Andreas Arestidou on a one-year deal will give first-choice goalkeeper Glyn Garner some welcome competition.

The former Blackburn Rovers shot-stopper also has the option of another 12 months with the Shrews.

Simpson said of his latest capture: "Andreas is an English lad with a Greek father and is a former England youth international.

"He's a goalkeeper who I've seen develop from the age of about 14 through the levels at Blackburn Rovers. He's a good keeper and a good shot-stopper who is a decent size with good distribution.

"With Andreas joining that's a young keeper coming in and I'm still pushing to bring in a first-team keeper in to compete with Glyn Garner.

"I have two or three options that I'm following to see if I can get a deal done. They're all of equal standard and are keepers who I think could do a very good job for us at this level."
