Shrews fail to retain Gylfi

Shrewsbury Town have failed with a bid to extend Gylfi Sigurdsson's loan stay at the club.

The Iceland Under-21 midfielder is coming towards the end of his initial one-month stay at the New Meadow from Reading.

Sigurdsson has made six appearances for the Shrews and impressed boss Paul Simpson.

However, Simpson's request for a loan extension has fallen on deaf ears at Reading.

"I'd like to have kept him for another month, but Reading want him back," he admitted.
