Shrews clinch Coughlan coup
31 Jul 2008 - 11:52:10
Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Simpson has continued his rebuilding job at the ProStar Stadium by snapping up experienced Rotherham United defender Graham Coughlan on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The 33-year-old has a wealth of experience since moving from Bray Wanderers to Blackburn Rovers in 1995.
Coughlan failed to make a first-team appearance for Rovers, but has gone on to feature in more than 350 matches for Livingston, Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley and Rotherham.
Simpson is delighted with his latest acquisition, telling the Shrews' official website: "I'm really pleased that Graham has agreed to come to the club and I must admit that he was one of the first targets that I went for.
"Graham is another captain-type character and a player who over his career has had promotions and I believe that is the mentality that you have to have inside the football club.
"I look at the options we have now and we have good options in the full-back areas both on the right and left, we've got good options in the strikers, in the wide players and in the centre of midfield."
