Shrews aim to keep starlet

Shrewsbury Town manager Gary Peters has vowed to do all he can to keep contract rebel David Edwards at Gay Meadow.

Edwards, 21, is out of contract at the end of the season and looks set to quit the club in the summer.

But Peters still believes he can persuade the promising midfielder with the Shrews.

"We've made him an offer but he hasn't accepted that," Peters told the club's official website.

"We've been told by Dave and his agent that it's not about money, but because he feels he can move on at the end of the season to a Championship club.

"I think it would be better for Dave to have at least another year with us as his development is coming on brilliantly and he could then leave the club in a position of strength.

"We are going to carry on trying to persuade Dave to sign for us. I don't give up on anything easily and as far as I'm concerned it's still work in progress."
