Shearer in Shrews switch

Bristol Rovers goalkeeper Scott Shearer has joined League Two rivals Shrewsbury Town on a three-month loan deal.

The Shrews' number one, Ryan Esson, is currently sidelined by a fractured cheekbone and Preston North End's Chris Neal had been providing loan cover.

Neal's loan deal came to an end earlier in the week, but manager Gary Peters has moved quickly to ensure he is not short of goalkeeping options.

Peters told Town's official website: "I've had to get a keeper in who I can get a guaranteed three months out of and I've managed that by bringing in Scott Shearer.

"Scott played nearly all of Bristol Rovers' games last season and played in their last three games. In those games he's had two clean sheets in two wins and a draw.

"He's only 25 but has played lots of games and is a very decent keeper."
