    Scan confirms Humphrey break

    26 Nov 2008 - 13:44:46

Shrewsbury Town could be without Chris Humphrey's services for six weeks after it was confirmed that the winger broke his jaw at Lincoln City on Saturday.

Humphrey played on despite suffering the injury in the opening stages of the Sincil Bank encounter when he was hurt by a challenge from Daniel Hone, but an X-ray on Saturday night confirmed the break.

"It's going to be about four to six weeks that Chris will be out and that's a big blow for us and for him," Shrews boss Paul Simpson told the cub's official website.

"The disappointing thing about it is that the challenge that Richard Walker got sent off for everyone is telling me it was a nothing challenge and not an elbow.

"I've watched the DVD after the game and the challenge on Chris Humphrey is a really aggressive challenge. The lad has smashed him on the jaw and broken it in two places.

"It shows the character that Chris has as he wanted to carry on and we even got their doctor to examine him at half-time.

"He went to the hospital on Saturday night and they've wired his jaw. He's seen the specialist and at first we were told it would be about eight weeks but now it will be four to six weeks.

"It's a blow as he was getting into some kind of form and was doing well in the first team so hopefully he can get over this and back into the side."
