Chairman opts to look forward

Shrews came agonisingly close to playing League One football next season but were eventually sunk by Gillingham's 90th-minute winner in Saturday's League Two play-off final at Wembley. But despite the obvious disappointment, Wycherley is urging everyone to start looking forward to the 2009/10 season with renewed optimism. He told the club's official website: "I am sure most people reading this will, like me, have gone through the full spectrum of emotions in recent days. From the excitement and expectation of the run-up to Wembley, to the feeling of complete emptiness and painful disappointment on the long journey home. "I've made no secret of my burning desire to see us play in higher leagues and have backed that personally with time, energy and resources. It wasn't to be this year and there comes a point where we have to stop reflecting on what might have been, dust ourselves down and start again. "Our manager has already done that and begun the process of re-shaping the team. It goes without saying that the board will work tirelessly to provide as much resource as possible to support this process, while always being mindful of the wider economic situation and of our core obligation to ensure the long-term security of the club."
