    Backward step suits Langmead

    06 Sep 2006 - 08:50:38

Shrewsbury boss Gary Peters is considering handing striker Kelvin Langmead a place in the Town first team at the heart of the defence.

The 21-year-old has excelled as a centre-half in recent reserve team games, with Peters particularly impressed by Langmead's display in a 3-1 win over West Brom.

He told the Shropshire Star: "The best player on the park, by a million miles, was Kelvin Langmead at centre-back. He was different class and every time I've seen him play there he's been superb.

"He played there against Stoke last week too, but that wasn't the first time as we also tried it in the reserves last season.

"It wouldn't worry me at all if we had to put him there in a league game.

"The way he's playing he's pushing for a start in that position anyway, he really is that good."
