Turner puts Shrews contract talks on hold

Shrewsbury boss Graham Turner has shelved contract negotiations with his players until the end of the season in order for his squad to fully focus on Town's promotion bid. Jon Taylor, Craig Disley and Kevin McIntyre are among those who see their current deals expire in the summer but Turner does not want anyone's eyes being taken off the main objective of clinching a place in npower League One. "There is too much to think about at the moment in terms of playing issues without the complications (of contracts)," Turner told the Shropshire Star. "It's no complication for me but it can be a distraction for players. If they get what they want, say a two-year contract, performances can drop off. If they don't get what they want, they become disenchanted and performances can drop off. "You can't win as far as contractual talks are concerned at the moment. I would rather leave everything on ice until we know where we will be." One out-of-contract player certain to be leaving the Greenhous Meadow in June is forward Benjamin van den Broek after it emerged he has agreed a pre-contract agreement with Dutch side FC Den Bosch, signalling a return to his homeland.
