Turner praises Shrews after shoot-out woe
Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner was naturally disappointed to bow out of the Johnstone`s Paint Trophy, although he was pleased with his side`s second-half response against Bury at Gigg Lane.
The Shakers had the better of the first half but Shrews hit back after the break and had chances to nick it, although neither side could produce a winner after 90 goalless minutes.
With the tie going to penalties, each side converted their first five spot-kicks to produce sudden death, and Bury goalkeeper Cameron Belford proved to be the matchwinner when he saved Danny O'Donnell's effort before firing home himself to seal a 6-5 shootout triumph.
Turner said: "We didn't really turn up in the first half, they were more competitive and we didn't get the movement I expected.
"But second half we gave it a really good go. We passed it better, were more aggressive in everything we did and we were grinding them down. We had the best chance in the last five minutes with young Tom Bradshaw, and unfortunately it just didn't happen to fall for him.
"It's disappointing to go out, but I was pleased with a decent second-half response to what we hadn't done first half."
