Turner fury at sub rule

Shrewsbury manager Graham Turner has hailed those in his squad returning from injury after a late rule change resulted in them playing the full 90 minutes in Monday`s 5-1 friendly win over minnows Ilfracombe. Turner is furious after a last-minute decision was made meaning clubs competing in the pre-season South West Challenge Cup are only allowed to make three substitutions instead of five, a switch which went against what the Shrews boss insists was confirmed to him. He believes the mix-up has "marred" the tournament for most of the clubs involved, which include Blackpool, Kilmarnock, Doncaster and Leyton Orient among others. Shrews face Rushden on Thursday knowing victory could send them into semi-final and final showdowns over the weekend, and Turner reserved praise for his returning players who battled through on Monday despite knowing they should have played a bit-part role. "I`d worked it out on the basis of what we had been told and we had players who were playing 45 minutes, players who were playing 60 minutes and then you get here and that is all out of the window," he told the club`s official website. "Craig Disley didn`t need 90 minutes, Kevin McIntyre wasn`t ready for 90 minutes but they got through and did well."
