Stanley edges out Shrews

A late Craig Stanley goal gave Morecambe a 1-0 victory over Shrewsbury, their first league win at the Globe Arena. Stanley raced into the box to head home Mark Duffy's right-wing cross seven minutes from time to cap a historic afternoon for the Shrimps on the day their new £12m stadium was officially opened. It was a win the home side fully deserved and had it not been for Shrewsbury keeper Chris Neal, who made a string of fine saves, they could have won by a much bigger margin. Shrewsbury had the better of the opening stages with Jake Robinson and Ian Sharps forcing Barry Roche into blocks before Morecambe found their feet. The Shrimps were denied an opening goal on the half hour when Neal somehow blocked Paul Mulllin's point-blank header, and five minutes later Adam Rundle saw a volley cleared off the line by Kevin McIntyre. Shrewsbury hit back with Sean McAllister drilling in an effort that was deflected wide by Andy Parrish and Mark Wright should have done better when teed up by McIntyre.
