Shrewsbury have signed goalkeeper Ben Smith on a two-year contract. Smith has been on trial at the Greenhous Meadow for the past couple of weeks having been released by Doncaster at the end of last season, where he made just 29 appearances in four years while also enjoying loan spells with Lincoln and Morecambe. And having impressed during his time at the club, Graham Turner is delighted to have fought off competition from rival clubs in higher divisions for Smith`s signature. The Shrews boss told Town`s official website: "He is a good character and wants to play for the club and help to push us on to success. It`s good news that he has chosen to join the club and I look forward to continuing the hard work with him on the training field. "With Ben joining that gives us good competition in the goalkeeping position, with him pushing Chris Neal and Hakan Duyan all the way." Smith becomes Shrewsbury`s second signing in as many days following the arrival of midfielder Sean McAllister.
