Simpson ready for flying start

Shrews came agonisingly close to promotion to League One having been in the mix all term, yet they will kick off the new campaign against Burton on August 8 instead of looking forward to matches against Southampton, Charlton, Norwich and Leeds. But Simpson is adamant a flying start to the season is the best cure for those play-off blues, telling the club's official website: "I don't think you can actually take away the mental side of losing a play-off final at Wembley, the only way you can dispel it is to have a good start to the season. "The players have come into training in a good mental state. In a way they have probably lifted us as staff with the way they have adapted." Town are currently pre-season training in Almeria, Spain and Simpson added: "They will be ready for the start of the season. To be honest, the fitness levels aren't at the same standard as last year but that is down to last season being extended due to the play-offs. "This week at Desert Springs is perfect for bringing the lads' fitness on, we will continue to work with them hard to make sure they are fit and ready to go on August 8."
