Gayle worry for Shrews

Cameron Gayle faces a late fitness test ahead of Shrewsbury's clash with midlands rivals Walsall.

The right-back is struggling due to an ankle injury and will be assessed as late as possible ahead of the 1pm kick-off at the Greenhous Meadow, with Town back in action following a two-week break as a result of their FA Cup first-round exit.

Striker Liam McAlinden has this week been recalled by parent club Wolves and is therefore not available.

Winger Jon Taylor looks set to be available having recovered from a knee problem but midfielder Aaron Wildig (knee) remains sidelined.

Walsall will take a full-strength squad to Shropshire.

The Saddlers bowed out of the FA Cup last weekend at Leyton Orient, coming after they disposed of Shrews 3-0 in the first round.

Manager Dean Smith admitted a couple of unnamed players were nursing minor knocks after the cup exit but have since recovered this week and all will be in contention to face Town.

Paul Downing and Adam Chambers are each one booking away from their fifth of the season and an automatic one-match suspension.
