Double trouble for Shrews

Shrewsbury picked up two injury concerns from Saturday's draw with AFC Wimbledon as they prepare to entertain Championship outfit Blackpool in the Capital One Cup.

Mickey Mellon was forced to take off Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro just a minute into the second half after the striker suffered a groin injury.

Liam Lawrence was always scheduled to come off early after not getting in enough pre-season training but the midfielder was nursing a thigh problem when making way for James Wesolowski on 56 minutes.

Mellon is still looking forward to the tie, though, stating: "I can't wait. It will be more of a football game, both teams will get it down and play. They won't be as direct as Wimbledon and will ask us a different type of question, rather than being another physical battle."

Blackpool are sweating over the availability of some of their new signings for the trip after registration issues wreaked havoc with Jose Riga's squad on Saturday.

Riga, who admitted after his team's 2-0 defeat at Nottingham Forest that he faces a huge task this season, was left with just nine senior players after the relevant paperwork failed to reach the Football League before the Friday noon deadline.

Costa Rica international Jose Miguel Cubero is yet to be granted a work permit, while left-back Joan Oriol still needs international clearance and Jeffery Rentmeister, Joel Dielna and Ishmael Miller are all waiting for their registration forms to be cleared.

Youth-team pair Dom Telford and Mark Waddington could be drafted in again to make up the numbers on Blackpool's bench, which was down to four against Forest.
