Shrews-Vale game called-off

An electrical fire at Greenhous Meadow brought a premature end to Shrewsbury's clash with Port Vale with the match abandoned after 66 minutes.

Shrewsbury were leading 1-0 at the time thanks to a James Collins goal.

The fire broke out in the electric control room of the East Stand. The lights went out on one side of the ground and supporters were quickly evacuated. It is believed no-one was injured.

A win would have taken Shrewsbury into second place and they were well on course thanks to a fine strike from top scorer Collins five minutes into the second half.

The Ireland Under-21 international smashed home a rising shot from 12 yards after Terry Gornell cleverly backheeled an Aaron Wildig pass into his path.

Vale had the best chance of the first half when Tom Pope's header was brilliantly kept out by Chris Neal.

The Shrewsbury goalkeeper also had to be alert early in the second half to save a Louis Dodds shot at his near post.
