Six in a row for Shrews

Shrewsbury turned on the style to sweep aside Exeter 4-0 as they moved another significant step towards sealing promotion.

Shrew have now won six successive games and are 10 points clear of fourth-placed Bury, who have five games left to play.

They took the lead in the 18th minute. Jordan Clark's shot from the edge of the box struck an Exeter defender and fell kindly to Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro to stab home from close range.

Exeter, who had been unbeaten in eight games, grew more dangerous as the first period developed and home goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler needed to be alert to tip a low drive from Lee Holmes behind for a corner.

But it was all Shrewsbury in the second half and there was no stopping Micky Mellon's men once top scorer James Collins turned in a corner just past the hour.

Frenchman Akpa Akpro grabbed his second of the game in the 74th minute, confidently sweeping in a cross from the right from Clark.

Shrewsbury then saved the best to last with a stoppage time fourth as substitute Tyrone Barnett hammered an unstoppable shot from the edge of the penalty area into the roof of the net.
