Shrewsbury 3-0 Burton Albion: Match Report

01 February 2011 22:44
Dream start for Taylor Diminutive winger Jon Taylor marked his full league debut with a double as Shrewsbury rekindled their automatic-promotion hopes with a 3-0 win over Burton. Taylor, who has emerged from the youth team at the Greenhous Meadow, fired the Shrews in front 10 minutes into the second half with a well-struck effort from the edge of the penalty area after being teed up by skipper Ian Sharps. He popped up again to give Graham Turner's side some valuable breathing spare in the 70th minute, blocking an attempted clearance from Russell Penn with the ball rebounding into the net from six yards. It quickly got even better for Shrewsbury when recalled striker Matt Harrold collected a pass from Mark Wright and drilled a powerful shot to the bottom corner. Burton had earlier carried the greater first half threat with Calvin Zola denied by a Kevin McIntyre goalline clearance, before the striker forced a flying save from goalkeeper Ben Smith. But Shrewsbury were much improved in all areas in the second half as they returned to the play-off places.
