Late double stuns Rovers

Shrewsbury produced a dramatic late show to seal an incredible 2-1 victory over Tranmere.

Micky Mellon's side were 1-0 down with time almost up before goals from Andy Mangan and Mickey Demetriou deep into stoppage time sparked a real turn around.

Rovers started brightly and skipper Max Power's 20-yard drive forced a scrambling save from goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler.

Shrewsbury almost took the lead when visiting keeper Owain Fon Williams failed to claim Demetriou's cross, James Collins fired goalwards, but covering defender Michael Ihiekwe was on hand to make a fine clearance.

Home skipper Connor Goldson then headed an Ashley Vincent corner over the bar as Shrewsbury continued to push, but it was Tranmere who snatched the game's opening goal in the 42nd minute.

Jake Kirby's cross from the left was nodded down by Mark Laird and Abdulai Baggie swept home from close range.

The hosts controlled the second half but Fon Williams produced fine saves to keep out efforts from Scott Vernon, Nathaniel Knight-Percival and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro.

Shrewsbury were eventually rewarded in the last minute when sub Mangan tapped in Demetriou's low cross for an equaliser.

Then, with time almost up, Mangan returned the favour, delivering a deep cross which was headed in from close range by left-back Demetriou.
