Duffy leaves it late as Burton snatch win at Shrewsbury

Mark Duffy grabbed a last-minute winner as Burton snatched a 1-0 victory at Shrewsbury.

The Brewers were second best for long spells but had the final word in the 90th minute when winger Duffy converted a cross from the left from substitute Jerome Binnom-Williams.

It means Shrewsbury have lost all three of their home games since gaining promotion last season as runners-up to League Two champions Burton.

After a tight opening Burton almost struck first in the 27th minute when big German striker Timmy Thiele raced away from Mark Ellis and fired in a shot which was kept out by the legs of goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler.

But Shrewsbury ended the first half strongly and were unfortunate not to be in front by the interval after left wing-back Junior Brown struck the crossbar and then a post from distance with fine efforts from outside the box in quick succession.

Liam Lawrence curled a 25-yard effort just over the bar and James Collins also drilled a shot just beyond the far post after being set-up by Matt Tootle.

Shrewsbury continued to look the side more likely to break the deadlock after the restart with Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro heading a corner just wide and Ryan Woods hammering a rising shot from distance just off target.

Burton had hardly threatened until Duffy applied the late sting in the tail with time almost up to extend Burton's excellent start to the season.
