Shrewsbury disposed at top after losing to Bradford

Bradford knocked Shrewsbury off the top of League One after beating them 1-0 at the Montgomery Waters Meadow.

The Bantams sealed victory, their seventh on their travels this season, thanks to a goal 10 minutes into the second half when Alex Gilliead's cross was deflected into his own net by home defender Aristote Nsiala.

Shrewsbury had the better chances of a goalless first half, with Ben Godfrey heading an early James Bolton cross over.

Shaun Whalley and Jon Nolan then fired just over from the edge of the box and Stefan Payne also drove just off target.

Payne forced a smart save at his near post from Bradford goalkeeper Rouven Sattelmaier as Paul Hurst's side ended the first period strongly.

Bradford made the breakthrough in the 55th minute when Gilliead, on loan from Newcastle, broke down the right and his low cross struck Nsiala on its way in.

The hosts pushed for a late equaliser but Sattelmaier made fine saves from both Carlton Morris and Whalley as Bradford, up to fourth in the table, became the first away team to claim three points at Shrewsbury this season.
