The in-form striker is currently on a season-long loan with the Conference outfit and had agreed a three-year stay with the club last week. But a statement on Shrewsbury's official website read: "It has been reported in the media that James Constable has been transferred to Oxford United. "This is not the case, a deal was agreed which was to be concluded prior to the 31st of March 2009, for reasons best known to Oxford this did not occur. "The next opportunity for Oxford to sign James is at the end of the season. "It is conceivable that the transfer could take place at this time, however for this to be so all parties concerned would have to reconfirm their willingness for the transfer to take place. James is contracted to Shrewsbury Town FC until the 30th June 2010."
