Shrews handed rest

Graham Turner has handed his Shrewsbury players two days off this week as reward for a demanding schedule of matches of late. Saturday`s 1-0 victory over Stevenage completed a near four-week programme in which Shrews have competed both in midweek and on the weekend, and they have come out of it strongly on the back of a four-match winning run which sees them flying high in second place. "That has now concluded nine games in 28 days and that by anyone`s standards is a tough programme, and the majority of the players have played in all nine games," said manager Turner. "We can have a breather now this week. The players, in view of the work they`ve put in, will have Monday and Wednesday off so they`ve got a bit of time to recoup and we`ve got a bit of time to regroup and start again on Saturday at Rotherham." Meanwhile, Sean McAllister, who was not part of Town`s matchday 18 at the weekend, is set to undergo a much-needed hernia operation with Turner now boasting plenty of midfield options in his ranks.
