Leslie earns Simpson praise

Boss Paul Simpson hailed the impact of local lad Steve Leslie after his second wonder goal in as many games inspired promotion-chasing Shrewsbury to a comfortable 2-0 win over Barnet. Leslie's stunning strike at Macclesfield last weekend earned Shrewsbury all three points and he was on hand again with a scorching shot, which flew in off the underside of the bar after 28 minutes. Shrewsbury had already opened up a one-goal advantage when Craig Disley netted his first goal for the club after 11 minutes with a glancing header from Lewis Neal's cross. "It was a fantastic finish," said Simpson. "I have to say I didn't think it had gone in because he hit it that hard. I thought he had hit it over the bar so I was delighted to hear somebody celebrate because I hadn't got a clue where it had gone. "We've been saying, probably for all the time I've been at the club, that Steve's got that in his locker and he's capable of doing that sort of thing. I don't expect it every week but we've had it two games running now so hopefully he can keep it going." Simpson added: It was a professional performance. We got put under pressure second half, we accept that, but it's a good win for us because even though they've been on a bad run Barnet showed at the start of the season they're a good side."
