Benson snubs a move to the Shrews

The League Two play-off finalists are desperate for a big-name striker to replace Grant Holt following his move to Norwich, but Benson turned down the move as he did not want to leave the London area for family reasons. Shrews believed the 29-year-old was keen on the switch last week, but his decision to reject the offer over the weekend has sent manager Paul Simson back to the drawing board. The Town boss told the club's official website: "Unfortunately the player has turned down the chance to come to the club and that is always possible when you make enquiries. "We made a six-figure offer for a striker and he's decided that he doesn't want to move, it's been reported that it was Paul Benson from Dagenham and that is who we enquired about. His decision is because he does not want to leave the London area for family reasons and we have to accept that. "We have a number of players in mind that we are interested in and we now move on and see if they are interested. It's not a case of a second choice as we were led to believe Paul Benson wanted to come to us and was prepared to move, but unfortunately that isn't the case."
