Accrington Stanley 1-3 Shrewsbury: Report

18 January 2011 22:10
James Collins scored twice to help Shrewsbury to a 3-1 victory at Accrington - their first win of the year - and moved them up to sixth place in League Two.

Collins headed home from a Steve Leslie corner after 50 minutes - his first for the New Meadow outfit since signing from Aston Villa.

His second came in the 71st minute when Tom Bradshaw threaded the ball through, the Stanley defence appealed for offside for Mark Wright, but Collins ran onto the loose ball and chipped goalkeeper Ian Dunbavin.

Wright wrapped up the scoring with his 11th of the season after 83 minutes when Shrewsbury broke and Bradshaw again provided the assist for the top scorer to fire home from 18 yards.

Stanley had taken the lead two minutes after the break when Terry Gornell's 20-yard shot took a deflection which wrong-footed goalkeeper Ben Smith.

Stanley searched for the equaliser but both Gornell and Jimmy Ryan could not find a way past the superb Smith before Wright sealed it.
