Watson backs Owls' choice

Sheffield Wednesday club captain Steve Watson has endorsed manager Brian Laws' decision to name Richard Wood as his new skipper.

The 23-year-old defender has been with the Owls for five seasons and will be the leader on the pitch in the coming year.

"It's a wise decision to make Woody the skipper on the pitch," veteran defender Watson told the club's official website.

"He's been groomed for the job and he's exactly the kind of bloke you'd want to captain your side.

"I'm really pleased for him and I'll be glad to help him out next season.

"At my age I don't need an armband on the pitch to have an influence, but I will be there to help Woody along."
