Varney unsure over Owls stay

Sheffield Wednesday loanee Luke Varney seems unlikely to extend his stay at Hillsborough beyond an initial month.

The 26-year-old has made just one appearance as a sub to date for the Owls and sees his long-term future back with the Rams.

He told the Sheffield Star: "I have spoken to Nigel Clough and he assures me that I have a future at Derby and am 100 per cent in his plans for next year.

"You never know what's going to happen in football, but I'd love to succeed at Derby.

"Obviously this is a great club as well - one that I'd look at in future, for sure. I'm enjoying it here and the lads have been great."
