Simek set to boost Owls

Sheffield Wednesday defender Frankie Simek has returned to training after ankle problems, but is still some way off a return to first-team action.

The 23-year-old American has been sidelined since mid-December and Owls boss Brian Laws is happy to see Simek back on the training pitch again.

He told the Sheffield Star: "We are very pleased with the way Frankie is coming along.

"I wouldn't like to put a timetable on when he might be back, but he is making great progress and he's got a smile on his face again."

Veteran Lee Bullen has filled in at right-back in Simek's absence, but he is expecting to leave the club next summer, with his current deal running out at the end of the season.

He said: "My own personal situation is that I'm probably going to be moving on at the end of the season.

"The club have basically told me that, so I've just got to get on with my own situation."
