Sheffield Wednesday sign striker

Owls make it a hat-trick of signings this week Sheffield Wednesday have made their third acquisition in as many days by securing the services of former Doncaster Rovers striker Paul Heffernan. The forward is coming to the end-of his contract with the Championship club and has agreed a two-year deal at Hillsborough that will formally commence on July 1st. Irishman Heffernan spent five seasons with Doncaster but struggled to find a place in the side last season. As a result he spent short spells on loan in League One with Oldham where he netted once in four appearances and then with Bristol Rovers, scoring four times in eleven matches. Although his spell at the Keepmoat ended somewhat disappointingly his overall record for the club was a good one. He found the net ten times in twenty-eight league games in 2008/09, only nineteen of which were starts and he was voted as Rovers’ players’ player of the season in 2006/07. Heffernan began his career at Notts County and had a season at Bristol City before moving onto Doncaster. In all the 28-year-old has scored an impressive 102 goals in 217 professional starts and has a proven record in the lower divisions which should prove to be an asset to the Owls as they look to make a return to the Football League Championship at the first time of asking.
