Shearer rules out Owls role
05 Jan 2010 - 08:22:54
Alan Shearer claims there is 'no truth' in reports that he is being lined up to become the new manager of Sheffield Wednesday.
The ailing Championship club are reported to have made Shearer their number one choice to replace Brian Laws in the Hillsborough hot-seat.
Shearer had a brief and unsuccessful spell as Newcastle Untied boss last season which ended when he failed to keep his hometown club in the Premier League.
However, the 39-year-old now television pundit has dismissed reports that he is being lined up to take over at Hillsborough, with former Newcastle team-mate Gary Speed acting as his assistant.
The former England striker told BBC Sport that there was "no truth" in the rumours of an imminent return to management.
Ailing Wednesday are currently second bottom of the Championship table.
Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington - a former Owls player - and ex-Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson are the two frontrunners for the job.
