Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock has made Gillingham utility man John Hills his first summer signing.
Hills has signed a two-year deal at Hillsborough following the expiry of his Gills contract and Sturrock believes the 27-year-old could prove to be an important signing ahead of the club's return to the Championship.
"We're very pleased. John has crossed some distance and has played in the Championship about 60 times over the last two years," he told the club's official website.
"Myself and the coaching staff liked him when he played at Blackpool and we feel he could be a great attribute for the team down the left-hand side as he can play both positions."
Hills spent the past two seasons with Gillingham having earlier made more than 160 league appearances during two spells with Blackpool, either side of a disappointing 28-month stay at Everton.
