Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock has swooped to sign Charlton Athletic striker Lloyd Sam on a one-month loan deal.
The Owls have been hit by a striker injury crisis, despite the season being less than three weeks old, as Wade Small, Steven MacLean, Marcus Tudgay, Deon Burton, Barry Corr and Drew Talbot are all on the sidelines.
Burton was due to be risked for the Carling Cup tie against Wrexham at Hillsborough on Wednesday, but Small's recent injury means he will now not play for fear of a possible setback.
However, following his failure to lure Jon Parkin from Championship rivals Ipswich, Sturrock has managed to persuade Addicks boss Iain Dowie to let 22-year-old Sam move north from The Valley.
The young forward is on the fringes of the first team at Charlton and will get the chance to experience Championship football for a month.
He will not be able to play in the Carling Cup but is set to make his debut in the Yorkshire derby against Leeds United this Sunday.
