Owls role interests Worthington
14 Dec 2009 - 09:44:30
Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington is keen to return to former club Sheffield Wednesday as the Championship club's new manager.
Worthington's contract with the Irish Football Association is due to expire in the new year and the former Owls full-back has spoken of his interest in the managerial vacancy at Hillsborough.
Former boss Brian Laws left the Championship club by mutual consent in the wake of Saturday's 3-0 defeat at Leicester City.
That loss left the South Yorkshire club in the relegation zone after a run of nine matches without a win.
"Let's be honest about this, in two weeks' time I'll be out of work and I have to weigh up my options," said Worthington, who spent over a decade at Hillsborough as a player.
He told the Belfast Telegraph: "I spent 11 great years at Sheffield Wednesday as a player and the club means a lot to me.
"If the opportunity arose to speak to them, then I'd have to listen to what they have to say.
"It would only be fair to myself and my career but, at this moment in time, there hasn't been any contact and I'm still under contract with the IFA and enjoying working with Northern Ireland."
