Owls may next signing might need to be on the coaching side

Premier League team Gunning for Wednesday coach

Sheffield Wednesday may be forced into a search for a new coach with the Owls pre-season preparations due to commence shortly. The club have been made aware of interest from Premier League giants Arsenal in respect of assistant manager Terry Burton.

Burton was appointed as assistant to Dave Jones just a matter of days after Jones was appointed as the new manager at Hillsborough last season, making the move to S6 from West Bromwich Albion. The pair previously struck up a successful partnership at Cardiff where they worked together for 6 seasons.

It is clear that they work well as a partnership and they enjoyed instant success at Hillsborough last season in guiding the team to automatic promotion without losing a game since taking the reigns.

Arsenal are looking to restructure their coaching set up for the forthcoming season and Burton is thought to be on their radar, specifically for the position of reserve team manager. Indeed, presenters on national radio station talksport were this evening talking of this as a done deal as part of their discussions about the North London club.

Wednesday have stated that the matter will be formally discussed next week when Dave Jones returns from a holiday and the decision is in the hands of Burton himself. The 59-year-old has links to Arsenal having played for the club’s youth teams. He returned to the club as youth team coach in 1979 and went onto become first team coach in the 1980’s and had a brief spell as reserve team manager in 1986.
