Owls make unexpected loan move
Sheffield Wednesday have today been involved in a loan move that has come pretty much out of the blue and will be a surprise to many.
The Owls have allowed experienced centre-back Martin Taylor to join League One side Brentford on a 28-day emergency loan deal.
Although Taylor has not featured in the Wednesday starting 11 this season the move will come as a surprise to many due to the injury concerns that the Owls have at the back. First choice centre-back Anthony Gardner faces months on the sidelines due to an achilles injury. That leaves Wednesday with just two experienced centre-backs in Kamil Zayatte and Miguel Llera.
Full-backs Reda Johnson and Lewis Buxton are capable of playing in a central position but have not done so with any sort of regularity for years and they have already had injury problems of their own this season.
Jordan Spence, recently signed on loan from West Ham to cover for Buxton's injury, can play centre-back but he is only here for a couple of weeks more and if he did need to cover at centre-back in this time the Owls would then be short at right-back with Buxton and Keiran Lee still not fit.
Taylor's move is only a short one at this time and so is unlikely to free up any significant funds but maybe it could lead to a longer deal which might allow the Owls to strengthen with a loan signing of their own.
