Owls lose injured Simek

Sheffield Wednesday will be without Frankie Simek for up to eight weeks after scans revealed the defender has ruptured ankle ligaments.

Simek, 23, was stretchered off during Saturday's defeat at Crystal Palace and the full-back will now miss the entire festive period.

"The scans showed that Frank has ruptured a ligament in his ankle," physio Mark Palmer told the club's official website.

"We will see how he progresses over the next ten days but it is likely that he will be out for six to eight weeks."

The USA international has made 20 appearances for the Owls this season.
