Wednesday sign experienced defender
Sheffield Wednesday’s busy pre-season transfer activity has continued today with the capture of Anthony Gardner.
The 31-year-old’s contract with Crystal Palace comes to an end this summer and he will then sign a two-year deal at Hillsborough.
In two seasons at Selhurst Park Gardner made over 50 appearances in the Championship and was a popular player with the Eagles fans.
The 6’ 5” central defender made his league debut for Port Vale in 1998 before moving to Premier League side Spurs 2 years later for £1M.
His 8 years at the North London club were often blighted by injury though his quality was never in doubt and in 2008 after a loan spell at Hull City he made the move north permanent, signing for the Tigers for a then club record fee of £2.5M.
Owls manager Dave Jones has described Gardner as a quality player and a leader who can help take the club forward while Gardner stated that the ambition of the manager and chairman influenced his decision to make the move to S6.
