Owls linked to Sodje raid

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws has admitted he is close to completing a move in the transfer market with Reading defender Sam Sodje believed to be his target.

Laws watched as his Owls side lost 3-1 to Wolves on Sunday to leave them still without any points after a poor start to the new Championship season.

The Wednesday boss refused to confirm whether Sodje was his intended target, but admitted after the latest defeat that he needs to strengthen his defence.

"We're trying to make a breakthrough before the deadline and we've got to try and get in an extra defender in time for the Charlton game," he said.

"We're in the process of negotiations with a player at present, but it's difficult because the season is under way and that's been a major problem.

"We're making silly mistakes in games and that is costing us.

"I'm extremely concerned with the goals we've conceded and I need to address the problem."
