Owls launch Jones appeal
29 Aug 2006 - 12:40:12
Sheffield Wednesday manager Paul Sturrock has decided to launch an appeal against Brad Jones' red card in Sunday's Championship defeat to Leeds United.
Jones was dismissed after fouling David Healy in the incident that allowed United's Northern Ireland international striker to score the only goal of the match from the penalty spot.
However, Sturrock is adamant that the incident took place outside the penalty area and is determined to over-rule the red card, which leads to an automatic one-match suspension for the on-loan shot-stopper.
Sturrock told the Owls' official website: "We've appealed. After looking at the video I feel a double injustice was done to us. Not only was the incident outside the box, our keeper was sent off as well.
"The ball was going away from goal and there is a debate as to whether he would have caught it before it went out of play.
"But it definitely wasn't a clear goalscoring opportunity - Bougherra and a couple of others had got back into the box. I hope they take that into consideration."
