Owls in need of a productive seaside trip
Blackpool Vs Wednesday: Team news & preview
Sheffield Wednesday travel to Blackpool on Tuesday evening as they attempt to put Saturday's narrow defeat at Leeds behind them to try and ease their lingering relegation fears.
Wednesday were in control at Elland Road on Saturday thanks to Jermaine Johnson's first half strike but 2 second half goals by ex-Owl Luke Varney has left the Owls in need of more points sooner rather than later as they bid to secure their Championship status.
JJ was substituted early in the 2nd half at the weekend and Dave Jones will be hoping the in-form winger is able to prove his fitness ahead of Tuesday evening's clash.
Seyi Olofinjana was left out of the squad at Leeds but could return to the Owls midfield providing he can overcome a niggling knee problem. Fellow loan midfielder Stuart Holden could drop out but Danny Pugh comes back into contention having been ineligible to play against his parent club.
Blackpool welcomed experienced midfielder Barry Ferguson back into their side following suspension for the weekend home win against Burnley and Gary Taylor-Fletcher also returned to the squad having spent a month on the sidelines. They are however without experienced defender Ian Evatt due to injury and former Owls loan midfielder Isiaah Osbourne due to a suspension.
The home side are likely to provide a real threat from wide positions through the ability of both Tom Ince and Matt Phillips.
Wednesday's defeat at Elland Road was their first loss in 5 matches but worryingly the Owls have now failed to keep a clean sheet in their last 9 games.
Paul Ince has guided his Blackpool side on a run of 4 matches without defeat and they have only lost 1 of their last 9 games. The seasiders overall record at home this season has been inconsistent with 7 wins, 8 draws and 6 defeats from their 21 Championship matches at Bloomfield Road during this campaign.
Blackpool enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 victory over the Owls at Hillsborough in November but Wednesday have a decent record on their visits to the seasiders, winning 15 times and losing 14 of their 37 previous visits. The Owls last trip to Bloomfield Road ended in a 1-1 draw in the F.A Cup last season but Blackpool eased to a 3-0 win in the replay.
