Owls forced to mix and match
16 Oct 2006 - 12:47:42
Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock has admitted that both Graham Coughlan and Glenn Whelan could face lengthy spells on the sidelines.
Coughlan missed Saturday's win against Barnsley after failing a fitness test on an injured hamstring, while Whelan pulled a calf muscle in the game and had to be substituted.
"They could be both long-term," said the Owls boss. "We'll have to mix and match for Wednesday (against Colchester United)."
Meanwhile, Sturrock hailed Chris Brunt for his never-say-die attitude after the Northern Ireland international scored the last-gasp winner in Saturday's derby success.
"That's Brunty - that's why he stays on the pitch sometimes," the former Plymouth Argyle and Southampton boss added.
"He sent six shots wide with his left foot, then does that with his right."
