Owls fail with appeals
21 Nov 2006 - 14:25:09
Sheffield Wednesday have failed with their appeals against the red cards picked up by Wade Small and Chris Brunt in Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Coventry City.
Small was handed his marching orders for hitting out at Michael Doyle in the 15th minute of the Ricoh Arena clash, while Brunt was sent off nine minutes before the break for a professional foul on Chris Birchall.
Owls boss Brian Laws was unhappy with the decisions, saying after the game: "I feel Small has a legitimate excuse. If every man could put himself in that situation, you could understand him reacting as he did.
"I've also looked at the Brunt incident closely. He never took his eye off the ball and it was just a coming together. There was no deliberate act to stop the player."
However, the FA ruled on Tuesday that both red cards were justified.
