Owls close in on new deals

Sheffield Wednesday boss Brian Laws is confident of agreeing new contracts with Chris Brunt and Steven MacLean.

Brunt, 23, has one year remaining on his existing deal and the Owls are desperate to extend his contract after an impressive season where he made 51 appearances.

Laws is also to keen to retain the services of MacLean after the striker was linked with a return to newly-promoted Scunthorpe United.

Referring to Brunt, the Owls boss revealed: "We have had discussions. He has had a super season and been outstanding.

"We are also still in negotiations with Steve MacLean. The situation is ongoing.

"Sometimes negotiations are plain sailing. Sometimes they can be a little bit dragged out."
