Sheffield Wednesday's controversial chairman Dave Allen has resigned from the board with immediate effect.
The Sheffield-based businessman has been at the helm of the Owls since 2003 but has not always seen eye-to-eye with the club's fans.
In July he launched a scathing attack on some sections of the Hillsborough crowd, calling them "scum" and "cretins" after he claimed to have been verbally abused at a match.
Allen escaped action from the Football Association despite being called to a disciplinary hearing to explain his actions.
But a brief statement on the club's official website has now confirmed his departure.
"At a board meeting today, Mr David Allen resigned as chairman and director of Sheffield Wednesday Football Club with immediate effect," it read.
"The board would like to place on record their appreciation of Mr Allen's significant contribution during his chairmanship."
Allen replaced Geoff Hulley as chairman after initially joining the club's board in 2000.
