Owls boss receives Chairman's backing; can he get it right tonight?
Wednesday Vs Watford: Team news & preview
Sheffield Wednesday manager Dave Jones has received the backing of his Chairman Milan Mandaric this week following another poor run of form which has seen the Owls drop into the bottom 3 in the Championship.
Wednesday face Watford at Hillsborough tonight and Jones could have a few decisions to make regarding his team selection. Martin Taylor had a steady game against Leicester on Saturday but Miguel Llera is available again after a 1-match suspension. Only 1 of the pair are likely to play with Anthony Gardner expected to retain his place.
In midfield Chris Lines made a substitute appearance at the weekend and could be pushing for his first start of the season following injury.
Wednesday have struggled for consistency up front all season and the pairing of Jay Bothroyd and Mamady Sidibe didn’t seem to work against Leicester. Chris O’Grady is close to a return from injury but is unlikely to start; Gary Madine and Rodri may both feel that they deserve another chance from the start.
Gianfranco Zola has guided his new look Watford side to a steady mid-table position and they come to Hillsborough in decent form.
The Owls will have to find a way past former Arsenal number 1 Manuel Almunia and they will need to stop striker Troy Deeney who has found his form after recently serving a prison sentence for affray.
Experienced defenders Lloyd Doyley and Nyron Nosworthy are likely to miss out due to injury as is midfielder John Eustace.
Wednesday have lost their last 4 matches, 2 of which have been at Hillsborough. Watford are unbeaten in 5 matches, a run that has included an impressive 6-1 victory away at Leeds United.
Watford have won 6 times and lost 11 in 22 visits to Hillsborough but have only won one of their last 7 trips to S6. The 2 teams last met in March 2010 when Wednesday won 2-1.
