Olive branch for Whelan
01 Dec 2006 - 12:04:26
Sheffield Wednesday manager Brian Laws has told transfer-listed midfielder Glenn Whelan that he still has a future at Hillsborough.
The 22-year-old Irishman looked to be heading out of the Ssuth Yorkshire club when he was made available for transfer under former boss Paul Sturrock.
But following Laws' arrival at Hillsborough earlier in the month, Whelan has become an integral part of the side.
"He's very much a part of my squad. I have told him that," Laws told the Sheffield Star.
"All he has to do is to prove to me that he's the player I know and have heard about on many occasions.
"He's a player I can work with, for sure. He's shown me, in training and in reserve games and when he's played in the first team that he has the desire to get back in.
"I haven't really spoken to him, to be quite honest, about bringing him off the list.
"If something was going to happen it would have happened by now. At this moment, he's not available."
