O'Driscoll delighted to down Owls

Elliott Ward, who signed on loan from Coventry earlier in the week, marked his debut with a stunning bicycle kick that went in off the underside of the bar after 39 minutes before James O'Connor's second-half own goal put the result of Tuesday night's Championship clash beyond doubt. And O'Driscoll said: "We played well against Forest (1-0 win at the weekend) and we wanted to put back-to-back performances together. "Elliott's come in and done really well and everybody else has matched what we did on Saturday, so I'm pleased." When asked about Ward's stunning strike, O'Driscoll added: "I've known him since he was a kid at West Ham, he is a ball-playing centre-half. "I thought his use of the ball was excellent and it's one of those, it's in the box and he's had a stab at it and it's one for the archives. "We've just had a look at it on the tape in the dressing room and it will be one for him to show the kids when he gets a little bit older." O'Driscoll was also pleased with Ward's overall contribution at Hillsborough. "He was excellent. He trained with us the this morning and I thought his use of the ball long and short was excellent and he'll fit into the way we want to play," he said. "He's been terrific. Twenty four hours ago we were struggling to put a backline together, but he's come in almost seamlessly, so he deserves a lot of credit for that." Meanwhile, O'Driscoll confirmed Brian Stock was withdrawn as a precaution in the second half, he added: "He block tackled somebody in the far corner and he's just come back from ankle surgery so we just took him off as a precaution... I didn't want to take any risks with anybody." Sheffield Wednesday manager Alan Irvine conceded his side had been second best after the former Preston boss suffered his first home defeat since taking charge at Hillsborough last month. He said: "The better team won the game, they deserved to win. We had a couple of big moments obviously, early in the game we hit the post twice at 0-0 and they were good chances." Irvine added: "(We need to) pass the ball better, we didn't pass it so well. We worked hard, you know you're going to have to do that against Doncaster with the way they play. "They get an extra man in the middle of the park quite often and they move the ball around well. "It's important that when you do get possession you use that well but we didn't do that in this particular game."
