Mixed verdict for Jeffers

Mixed verdict for Jeffers
Wednesday Oct 24 2007 07:53

Sheffield Wednesday striker Francis Jeffers did not break his ankle in the weekend 4-2 win at Stoke City, but faces at least three months out of action with tendon damage.

The Owls had feared that the 26-year-old had suffered a broken ankle following a challenge from Ryan Shawcross, but although Jeffers did not suffer a break, he still faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Owls boss Brian Laws told the club's official website: "Franny could not have the scan on Monday because there was a lot of swelling in the ankle and blood in there.

"The specialist said that he must have ruptured the tendons because of the amount of blood in the ankle, but we will have to wait for that to be fully assessed.

"There was no break, but the damage done could be as bad, if not worse, than a break. It's going to take a long time for him to recover, three months minimum."
